But you may be thinking of the band Gwar, which was the band where Mark was tripping from Pot Brownies in the movie Empire Records. But my usage of Gnar comes from the root word "Gnarly" which originated in the late 70s by a surfer named Kirk Saltwater who, while riding a wave with his buddy Rico Rivera, sneezed and the ensuing noise sounded like the word Gnarly. Rico beared witness to this act and later commited suicide because he was consistantly questioned by the press and forced to recall the incident so many times that he couldn't handle it. Kirk lived to ripe age of 84 until he was stabbed to death in his sleep by his wife Helen who after all the years became jealous of his fame. Helen was tried in court but was acquitted for reasons of "old age" and "insanity". She died two years later of heart disease. |
