Music: AFI - 37mm
Subject: Decemberunderground

I've been meaning to muse about this for a few days, so I'll do it now, when I should be revising for my mechanics exam this afternoon.

The first time I played Decemberunderground through, I wasn't sure whether or not I liked it. Certainly, there were some good moments, but it was very different from anything of theirs I'd heard before. This was to be expected, of course, given AFI's track record, but still, DU is very far from their other records. I held my opinion back until I'd played it through a few more times, and I'm glad I did. DU gets better with each play, much like Sing the Sorrow did for me in 2003.

The standout tracks as far as I'm concerned are The Interview and 37mm, although all of the record is good. There was definitely a heavier electronic influence in DU, which is an interesting, but welcome change, and an expected one when looking at tracks like Death Of Seasons from StS. Influence from The Cure is also very noticeable in the record, particularly in some of Davey's vocals.

Overall, while it takes a little getting used to DU is an excellent album. Now if they'd hurry up and announce the dates for their European tour...

I agree, DU gets better each time I play it. But so far its nothing like STS.
I cant wait till they have the dates for the tour.
