It's snowing. No joke. It has been so nice and warm[er] this week and today it decides to snow. Not cool, Michigan, not cool. What are those poor kids going to do for an Easter egg hunt? Are they going to have to do it inside? How lame.

I would like to tell you a story. There was was a beautiful little French town named Collioure...

This town had everything you could have ever wanted. It was adorable, located right on the Mediterranean Sea and small enough that it felt like no one but you knew about it.

The water was beautiful and cool every day. It soothed hot sore feet and was so clear you could see every rock and fish.

The town had its own fort protecting the city. This fort had been a castle and a second home to royalty before becoming the strong fort it finally was. It sat above the town protecting the homes that would someday be vacation homes to nice British people.

This town was visited by three girls one May.

These girls had so much fun, they never wanted to leave the little town. Late that afternoon, as the girls were soaking their sore feet in the cool sea, one of them spied a rock in the distance.

One of the girls remarked upon the likeness of that rock and a rock in a movie called The Little Mermaid. "Didn't that take place in France?" one of them remarked. The other two agreed and then the first declared joyfully that this town was where that mermaid washed up and the fort was where the prince lived.

The town, already a beautiful town in its own right, became majestic in their eyes. It became The Little Mermaid town. They visited it once more before they left France and it was still just as gorgeous and just as magical.

When any of them worried, felt stressed, homesick, tired or hated the weather, they thought of that town and were once again teleported back to its rocky beaches, narrow streets and magical waters.

it reminds me of puerto angel in mexico sorta. i was really sick when we went there though so i didn't enjoy it too much. but it was also pretty small and had colorful buildings and had a really nice port where you could go swimming with huge waves, fresh caught fish to eat, nice people...

Not in my world. If the Disney movies says France, my world says France.

i wrote a paper my freshmen year about mermaids, how they are a sexual metaphor- the fish tail represents sexual purity and what the little mermaid wants metaphorically was to "split her legs", so to speak, for the prince. she is condemed for a premature awaking to romantic love. Hans Christian Andersen was very concerned with this sort of thing, being a closet homosexual who obsessed over stopping himself from masturbating. the image of the mermaid progesses out of ancient myths of sea sirens who were melevolent creatures but you can trace them as a symbol through literature across history; it is interesting to see them become more and more sympathetic creatures until we get the modern disney manifestation.

i do not really like the disney version, in that the story is that, if you really look into it, the creaters present a story of a young girl lying and going behind the back of her family and presenting herself to a much older man for a sexual opportunity, and she is shown to get away with this unharmed. it presents a distorted view of sexuality to other young women, i think. i also don't like anderson's abject fear of sexuality, but disneys open promniscuity is not much better. there needs to be a mermaid myth that presents a happy medium...

Yeah, that's my least favorite Disney movie. She sells her voice to be like everyone else. And all the prince fell in love with was how she looked and acted (like everybody else) since she couldn't talk.

No wait, I lied. My least favorite is Sleeping Beauty because they left out her twins. No, Cinderella because she's an idiot. And all he remembers about her is the shoe.

The best one is Beauty and the Beast. She's educated and they fall in love with each other despite their differences. And then lucky her, he's gorgeous.

I dunno, Beauty and the Beast kinda gave me the "it's okay to stay in an abusive relationship, it'll turn out alright" vibe...

Ah, ta histoire est tres mignonne! Je n'allais pas a cette ville, mais j'ai vu Nice et Cannes au sud de la France.

That rock does look like the Little Mermaid rock. Le zomg.

P.S. Excuse my lack of accent grave et aigu. My Tablet keyboard hates me.
