Let's get this first point out of the way first and then move on to more important matters. Crash is not the best picture of last year. I'd be happy to debate this statement with you, but I won't listen to a word until you have seen Munich, Good Night, Capote, and Brokeback Mtn.

Went to a (free) play yesterday with Christine at the Black Spectrum Theater in Jamiaca based upon the old 1950's sitcom Amos & Andy. Nothing spectacular, but it held my interest for the most part and I got to go to a new place and try something new, two things I live for in this city.

Afterwards, headed to the East Village to my friend Deb's place to watch the Oscars w/ some people from the Learning Processes program. Very entertaining evening; it was too bad that some people had to leave early for morning reponsibilities. Ten arbitrary points to our host for a kick-ass spread.

Left immediately after the conclusion of the awards show to walk (and talk) off the Crash-related letdown. This is where the story takes a turn for the worse. Cut contains copy-and-pasted conversation w/ Ryan regarding my trip home. Not for the faint of heart. :-)

TaoMan1121 (12:33:05 PM): so i left from east village as soon as it was done... 11:30 around here, and i didn't get off at my station until 1-1:15am
TaoMan1121 (12:33:15 PM): i was waiting forever, i wanted to die
TaoMan1121 (12:34:32 PM): still drunk, i started walking home, and this fucker damn ran me over busting out of a parking lot, so as he was passing i gave him the finger and slapped the back of his SUV
TaoMan1121 (12:35:26 PM): asshole got out of we started getting into it... mind you i was carrying a bag full of alcohol, my ipod, and my phone (talking to michelle) as well i'm getting into it with this guy
TaoMan1121 (12:36:11 PM): anyway, i was caught off guard and he ended up shoving me and i fell backwards and ended up twisting my ankle... that was about the end of it, i just told him to fuck off and walked away
TaoMan1121 (12:36:18 PM): so THAT was fun
Leeder5421 (12:36:58 PM): omg.....
TaoMan1121 (12:37:21 PM): :-D yeah
Leeder5421 (12:37:33 PM): well, you got into your first new york brawl....kind of
TaoMan1121 (12:39:31 PM): but last night i was still pretty drunk and pissed off at the transit system and the oscars, so yeah...
TaoMan1121 (12:41:23 PM): that really pisses me off as a pedestrian, and in the moment, i'm honestly surprised when they get as pissed off as i am, because it's my life they are endangering by driving like that... just one of my pet peeves i guess
TaoMan1121 (12:44:45 PM): yeah, i mean looking back, he was definitely in the fault because he zoomed out there w/ out even looking, but i have a feeling it wasn't quite as close as i thought it was because i was drunk and uninhibited and already in a shitty mood
TaoMan1121 (12:44:55 PM): but hey, i live to tell the tale
TaoMan1121 (12:45:24 PM): talked to michelle for like an hour and a half afterwards, she made me feel a lot better
Leeder5421 (12:45:11 PM): its definitely somethign you need to share in your journal
TaoMan1121 (12:45:41 PM): i'm kinda embarrassed about it, but i might copy this convo
Leeder5421 (12:46:40 PM): do what you will
Leeder5421 (12:46:48 PM): can we talk about crash now?
TaoMan1121 (12:47:05 PM): oh could we... ::jams fork into forehead::

So, to end this back on a happy note, here's a pic from last night. Motley crew from the LP program, clockwise from left: Deb, me, Roxana, and Alison.

(edit 2:00pm) Thanks to Leeder for this article, couldn't have summed up my feelings about it any better if I had wrote it myself...
Breaking no ground: Why 'Crash' won...

(edit 3:32pm) Just for the record, the Best Pic nominees, in order of personal preference:
1) Munich
2) Good Night, and Good Luck
3) Brokeback Mtn.
4) Capote
5) Crash

Thanks. A very similar incident happened to me about a year ago in Kalamazoo, but that time it was a couple of skinny poser-punks in their tricked-out vehicle trying to look cool. Actually came out of that one looking like the alpha-dominant male because the guys were all talk. I dunno, I probably shouldn't let me bother to the point where I feel I have to retaliate, but I get really indignant when people act so irresponisbly with two tons of steel and other people's lives in their hands.

It wasn't a tricked out car, it was a Volvo S80. And you forgot to say a girl walking by stood up for you :-)
