Allelujiah! Praise the Lord.
The honors midterm (or rather the "tri-term") did not murder my life as I suspected. At least, I don't believe it did. Maybe I have a false sense of achievment like I had after the AP calc test, but I honestly think I did great. I knew every one of the quotes that we had to write about. I also made decent arguments in my two essays. When I think about it, I should get at LEAST a 60%, although my grade will hopefully be a B or better...depends how tough they grade. The other people I spoke with after the test thought it was pretty difficult and completely guessed on some of the IDs (quotes). The only place I'll suffer is possibly implications of some quotes and specificity of details in my essays. I wish we had more than 50 minutes, but it really forces you to work the entire time. As for math, I know I'll get an A in that class, but the teacher pisses me off. We got our first exam back and I got a 94%. Two of my answers were correct, just I made stupid mistakes. The other was almost correct but not. The thing that pisses me off about the teacher, though, is that he makes mistakes alll the time. If you look at the exam we had and the answer key that he gave us...uhm, yeah. He clearly changed some of the questions to better suit his answers, but even then he didn't anwer them right. Like when it asks for percents and he gives decimals! C'mon math teacher! Maybe I'm just frustrated in my own mistakes so I'm taking it out on him, but I don't like the class. He treats us like retards. But then again, I'm not looking forward to calculus because I suspect that will be difficult. In OTHER news...yesterday was my 19th birthday! It was a great day! I woke up early, excercised, and went to class. All day long, everyone was wishing me happy birthday. I guess dinner at simpson was my "birthday dinner." Sara and Theresa went totally out of their way and bought me a brand new holster for my cell phone (the one I had broke when we went to Standee's for shakes). They also made me some burnt, but still delicious cookies. Sara D. got me a woopee cushion. That thing is soooo much fun. All day long I've been amusing myself by playing with it. She saw me playing with it at walgreens and decided to buy it for me I guess! Then...Megan got me the most hillarious gift: a full gallon of apple juice. I drink apple juice with every meal here, so I guess she kinda noticed I like the stuff. In addition, she made me a really cool card that meant a lot to me. To top the night off, when I went to my environmental meeting, the officers baked a cake for my birthday. I couldn't have asked for a better day. 19 is such an odd age to be, but everyone went out of their way to make it a blast. I found out my roomate is already 19, which is kinda strange because I thought he was only 18. I am soo glad that today is friday....

18.99998 years to reflect on
September 30th, 2004. Today will be my 19th birthday. Birthdays haven't really been very special to me. Mostly, they've always gone by relatively unnoticed. But the people I know here seem to make a big deal out of it. Sara and Theresa called me at 12:15 when I was in the library to sing me happy birthday. That definitely made my night. Earlier in the evening I went to the Thai Grill with Megan, Lisa, Sara D., Keith, Jessica, and John. No one really had exact change, so they ended up treating me to a birthday dinner. I felt uncomfortable having my meal paid for, but other than that my first thai experience was pretty good. Today I watched the first year theater students perform their monologues. That was awesome. Almost every single person who went up there was awesome. I really need to practice my own monologues. Tomorrow I'm supposed to go into practice. Well, I best be off to bed...

I have been totally out of it lately. Today, for example, I completely forgot about my freshmen seminar and therefore did not show up. For some reason I was thinking that it was tomorrow. Wow. I need more sleep. I think I have two problems. 1) I am a night owl. 2) I wake up sporatically after sunrise but before my alarm clock goes off. When my alarm clock actually does go off, I'm still tired and don't want to get out of bed. I think this is going to be the deal. This weekend I will sleep in both days. Next weekend I will come home friday, saturday, sunday but leave monday morning and spend some down time recovering from college. For some reason I don't think Muskegon will be very recooperating. Well, off to sleep. Hopefully I'll dream of numbers and greek literature and all the good stuff I should be learning...Oh yeah, tonight I went to Alpha, which is a christian learning program held through Capture. I only went because I promised megan I'd go, but it was a good experience. I met a bunch of new people, mostly upperclassmen, and got to listen to a guy who in no way tried to shove religion down our throats. right on.

Genuine. That's the best kind. Tonight I had geniune mexican food from this little "hole in the wall" but it was a great experience. Sara's friend Karley from North Park took me, sara, and megan there for dinner. I got back dead tired but managed to do some homework as well as some laundry. After that, i went out to the jes lawn to talk to emily and returned for some geniune musical talent. I think it's the rawness that attracts me most. Kelly, Greg, and this guy Nick were in the simpson multipurpose room jamming out. It was their first time just coming up with stuff off the top of their heads, but it was AMAZING! Not only is Kelly a fantastic singer, but she can make up really random, funny songs on the spot. One of her songs was about how she got back from her $7.00/hr job at walmart and wanted a foot masage. Another one was how she swore at her professore and then got arrested (by him) for selling pot.
Yet another song was about her kicking some guy's ass who stole her purse at the supermarket. I wish I had talent like that, but maybe that's what makes me in awe of it. I guess everyone has their own thing that they're good at.

Second city was a blast! A bunch of us went to the skybox theater to watch the last performance of Papa's Got a Brand New Baghdad, "a hip comedy revue featuring original and Second City archive scenes, music, and politcal satire with an urban twist." It was a lot like watching Mad Tv...but live! The sense of humor was more crude like mad tv anyways. The first skit was where black people were giving other people "the hook up." Hahaha. Like this black girl at the chicken coop gave this other lady some food even though she only had $2 in all pennies...canadian pennies. As far as politics, this one guy did a great impersonation of bush where he proclaimed that America was going to war with Satan. Haha, yes...to make Hell a "better place when we all go there." There was a musical number where they sang praise to the guy who discovered how to store up blood. It was funnier than it sounds, believe me. The music inbetween the skits was great too. They played a lot of rap, but with a twist. I dunno how to explain it. After the show we had about two hours to burn until the free improv, so we walked down Wells St. Not much happened other than a few of the guys walked into this "adult" chocolate store, which turned out to be gay. Lol. I guess one of them walked in and thoughtlessly said "man, this is so gay." We got back to Second City about half an hour before the show was supposed to start. There was this really drunk old guy who was doing bar tricks and reciting the worst jokes, not to mention hitting on the girls. Theresa, Megan, and bunch of other people from Loyola showed up. When we finally got into the improv show, it was alright. Not as funny as the show we actually paid for but still a great time. Imagine Who's Line meets SNL. When we were leaving, some girl puked near the entrance. I was laughing just watching everyone's expression as they saw it and gagged. Overall, it was a great night. Hopefully I'll think it was worth it when I have to drag myself out of bed for my incredibly busy day tomorrow.

Fun Fridays
Tonight wasn't as bad as it seems. It's just that it's still early but there's nothing to do. A bunch of went out to Giordano's for some chicago deep dish pizza. It was my first time having it, and I have concluded that it's good but not as good as thin crust. it was certainly an interesting dinner. Tex showed up high after eating some special brownies. There was speculation that Kyle had some sort of contact buzz, but he didn't think he did. Anyways, we were celebrating Sara's birthday. After dinner we went back to her dorm and just chilled. Megan made this reallly good jello-cake thing. Pat, Sara's boyfriend from PA, came. He seems like a pretty nice guy but I guess he was a little intimidated by all us. I can see why. Well, after him and sara left, not much happened. Jessica, Keith, Theresa, and I just chilled listening to music. After Jessica and Keith left, Theresa got a call from Sara D. asking if she wanted to go to TKE. So we went there. It wasn't a party but a "gathering." A pretty weak one at that. We basically stood their for 10 minutes watching some people play beer pong. The funniest thing was when this girl walked out of the bathroom with her skirt tucked into her underwear. hahaha! Well, I'm off to either sleep, watch a little movie, or read.

Fuck. Why? I can't say if I am changing or not, but if I am, there's not a whole lot that I can do about it. This is not Muskegon. I am not in high school. The people I hang out with are not my friends from back home. On top of that, I'm still adjusting to college life, after being here a month already. Juding from my Italian and English grades, I'm only a B student. That's like failing to me. I know I can do better, but I've just been slacking. I can't find the motivation to do work. Like tonight. I never read Agamemnon for my honors class tomorrow. In fact, I did absolutely no homework tonight. After english, which is the looongest class ever (it's something about the time it's scheduled that makes it seem like an eternity), I went to the Metropolis with Sara and Megan for some coffee...well a frappicino anyways. Then Theresa and Sara D stopped by and I went to Walgreens with them. Next thing I know, it's already dinner time. After dinner I come back to my room and review all of my accounts, just to make sure that my credit's still good. Then in no time it's 9:00pm and I have my SEA meeting. That was actually pretty fun tonight because my roomate was there and I came up with a lot of really cool ideas for the Waste Less committee I'm in. After that, I took my roomate on a tour of the 13th and 14th floors. He definitely thought it was creepy cool. He took off to Mertz and I got ready and met Rohin at the gym for some weight lifting. That was intense. My arms are like permenantly flexed now. When I got back to my room, Matt was already back playing some Xbox (his dad just brought it today). It was really strange because I smelled something strange. I asked him if he smoked and appearently he does, from time to time. Wow. I did not know that. I know I dont know a lot about my roomate, but man...I reallllly don't know this kid at allllll. That's kinda scary. Hopefully as the year goes on we'll get to know each other better. Well I'm going to take my lazy, procrastinative ass to bed. Tomorrow I gotta buy sara something for her birthday. And think of an idea for a card to make her.

It's 2:00 am and I just walked in my dorm from studying Italian with Sara in front of Jesus. I was really happy today for some reason, but now I'm just kinda blah. Maybe it has something to do with my senioritus/ADD/unmotivation. Tonight I wrote the WORST paper of my life. I think I'm going to hand it in with a note explaining that I know it's a piece of shit. I have my first italian exam tomorrow, but I couldn't really bring myself to study. Maybe I'll get some study time in tomorrow morning if I get up early. I guess people have been talking about who I like/who likes me. What's said in room 104 stays in room 104...according to it's occupants. I'm not sure if I like this girl as more than a friend or not. She's definitely an awesome person, but almost too good for me. So I dunno. Well I'm out.

life and other things
Tonight I attended the read through of Speak Truth to Power. Originally I was cast as the "seventh voice," but tonight I read the "third voice," and I guess that's who I'm going to be. It's all monologues, but I don't think it'll be impossible. There's some pretty cool people involved, but they're still looking for a couple more guys to fill in for the male voices. Hopefully I'm not in over my head. The show's in less than a month! By the way, school seems to be going by fast. It's already the 4th week? So for I'm a B student, which sucks ass. I got a B- on my italian quiz and an 83% on my english paper just because my teacher grades very subjectively rather than strictly on gramatics. Tomorrow is my first math quiz, so hopefully I won't botch that up. I gotta be an A minus student if not an A. It's not impossible. At 4:00 I showed up for my freshmen seminar, but it was "cancelled" for an out of class project, which was to check out the gym. Glad I already did that. I got a smoothie and headed to the jes lawn to study where I found everyone. My roomate, who's not back (it's almost 1:30am), briefly sat with us, but then he left. Maybe he's as uncomfortable around my friends as I am around his, although I must say that my friends at least try to include him. But...I'm too tired to think. Tonight I went to the library with Sara so that she wouldn't feel akward studying with these upperclassmen in our italian class. I need to figure out what to get her for her birthday. Hmm. I also talked to Theresa tonight. I guess she wasn't haven't such a great day. We still had a good convo. Well, I better study math...

So right now I am making Italian flash cards admist listening to a bunch of brand new music and procrastinating on the other homework that I have to do. Yes, last night I went to a "listening party" in Kendall's room..and it was awesome. I walked away with a lot of great music on my computer including Radiohead, Matchbook Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Death Cab for Cutie, Damien Rice, and more. Today has kind of sucked. After classes I went to the Welness Center. I had an appointment at 2:45, but I didn't even get to see anyone until 3:15, and I wasn't out of there until 4:45. The result of my on-and-off soar throat in combination with feeling sick: they think I have allergies. So now I get to be a guinea pig again and try out Allegra-D. It's strange because I don't have any of the other symptoms like itching eyes, runny nose, etc., but I do have what they call "post-nasal drainainage," and I guess it's not draining too well? Hmm. Hopefully this allegra stuff works, although that means more money towards prescriptions. When I finally got back from the wellness center, I checked my mail. One of the emails was titled "Speak Power to Truth." I opened it up. And...I have been cast as the 7th Voice in this play that the gannon scholars are putting on in a month! Kinda scary, but I think it will be a cool experience. Tomorrow I gotta print this long-ass script and go to rehersal. I'm still mixed about the news though. To top the day off, I still have homework to do, emily is pissed off at me because I'm not talking to her, and brandi called me up and had me talk with a bunch of her friends who were not in the sober state of mind. This girl lisa said "I love you." Ha.

Tonight was MUCH better than last night. And yet, it was still pretty spontaneous. Once again, our plans fell through; tickets for second city were sold out. Instead, I joined up with Megan, Keith, Kyle, and Dan and we went downtown to the Celtic Fest. At first I wasn't too excited, but it was actually pretty cool seeing people perform music life, seeing celctic dancers do their thing. When we were done with that, we headed to Ed Debevic's, this really awesome 50s-60s diner where the waiters/waitresses are rude to you. Our waitress wasn't too rude, but she was a lot of fun. After dinner, we went back to Loyola and watched Dogma in Sara and Theresa's room. Wow, that's an interesting movie. I can see why it's sacriligous, but I don't think the movie has a terrible message. The funniest thing: seeing Alanis Morrisette play God, while running around sniffing flowers and tumbling around. I walked Megan back to her dorm. On the way we bumped into my brow bud, Kendal, and this guy she was with, Tony. We talked for a bit, then Megan and I went and played a quick game of uno outside of her dorm. Some of the guys are supposedly at a free show at second city right now, but I'm pretty tired. I ran the aids walk this morning. It was a bit difficult to get out of bed, and to convince myself to run, but I did it. 5k in 28 minutes. Not great time, but hey, I'm not a runner. I needed tonight, especially after last night...

My night fucking sucked. I mean, I hung out with a lot of great people and we laughed a lot, but we did ab-so-lute-ly NOTHING. Instead of going clubbing, we went to UIC because it was some kid's birthday. Well, it turned out that he wanted to go to some UIC party that none of us really wanted to go to. So we all decided to head back to loyola, however, we had to wait a frickin 35 minutes for the el to come. When we finally got back to rogers park it was already 11:30. We headed to this 24 hour diner called Sandys (wouldn't really recommend it) for "shakes," if that's what you want to call them. I got a chocolate "shake" but it tasted just like melted ice cream. I wasn't a fan. When we were done with that we decided to head over to the TKE frat party on Columbia. It was supposed to be the hot spot of the night, but once we got close, Tex told theresa that the cops busted the party. None of us really believed that, so we were gonna go check it out ourselves when we saw tex and mike and everyone else heading our way. I guess they made up that story just to get this really really smashed girl out of there (guys were trying to take advantage of her, but they didn't anything bad to happen). SO....we walked back down Columbia with some sorta drunk but not plastered people. Tex sat on some old guy's lawn for 3 seconds before the guy told him to "get the fuck off my yard." He blew up at "us" for making the neighborhood a "shitty slum." I can see where's he's coming from. It just sucked because not ALL of us were drunk. Plus, the drunk people were getting really defensive. "Jesus doesn't like you anymore." "I'm a fucking jesuit." So on and so forth...Back on campus, theresa and sara went back to their dorm. Sara D. and I waited around. Steve told us we could go back to the party, but some people said it was pretty dead, so we decided to call it a night. yeah, doesn't that suck? I can't go to school all week to have a shitty weekend. Tomorrow we're suppoed to go to Second City and see a show...but none of us have tickets yet. I'm going to make sure that someone has a definite plan B. Otherwise, i might as well just go home and sleep. I have to be up in about 5 hours for the aids run. Man, that's going to be fun. Is it healthy to run with a cold? Hmm.. I guess we'll see.

Third week of school and I am sick. It sucks. I am tired. My throat hurts. I can't breathe out of my left nostril (even though my garbage is full of kleenex). If I don't feel better by monday I'll go to the wellness center and see what they can do. But I don't want to be sick over the weekend. Tomorrow I might go clubbing and possibly to a "geeky" frat party. Or if it all falls through, it might be another movie night...but I want to take advantage of being in chi-town while I'm here. Besides that, I have the aids run on saturday morning, so it's not going to be fun running with a cold. Just a few recaps of last night and today:
-Last night a bunch of us went up to the 13th floor of Mundelin..it was fun.
-My honors discussion leader believes in the dumb jock stereotype
-I got my new barbell for my eyebrow today. It's straight instead of curved, and it fits much better.
-The Jes Fest wasn't too exciting, but they did have a cool inflatable slide.
-Sara picked me up some stuff from target...and she got me pink light bulbs
-I'm on two comittees for SEA, one being the waste less campagin and the other being the "cigarete butt picker-upers."
-I have a lot of reading to do.
-I MIGHT audition for a small show here on campus.
-Real world is holding auditions downtown tomorrow. It'd be interesting just to go.

I am sooo glad to be done with my first major paper. I stayed up until 5:00am yesterday just to get it done. Then I woke up at 9:00, went to class, came back and revised my paper, went to the writing center, revised my paper again, and printed it at 12:30, five minutes before class. I had to book it out of the crown center to get to my lecture in time. I was in such a rush, it wasn't good. But it felt good to be done. Someone, I stayed up alll day long with that 4 hours of sleep. But around 10:30 I came back and crashed. It sucked cause I woke up about two hours ago. But now I'm tired, so I'll give it a go again. Tonight wasn't very productive, but it was fun. A bunch of us went to Mundelein to explore. The 13th floor isn't too creepy until you get to the back where the rooms are dark and you don't know what's around the corner. Some people chickened out, but it was all good. Some guy kept saying that homeless people live there and were going to rape him. riight. We tried to find the empty pool but instead found an old gym. good times. now tomorrow I'm going to be doing a ton of homework.

I have a feeling that tonight is going to be a late night. I have my first honors paper due tomorrow at exactly 12:35. I can't mess around with grades, especially in this class. It doesn't help that I'm already falling asleep now. I'm thinking I'll write my outline, hit up the gym, get coffee, take a shower, and settle into doing some major work. A funny story: Last night after I came back from my brow buddies room, I realized that my fly was down and that it must've been down the entire time. Haha. Sometimes you just gotta laugh at yourself. In not so good news, tonight I missed our floor meeting. I was completely out of the loop about it. Even though I saw everyone in there, I just dismissed it and opted for sleep. I got the jist of it from Matt. Appearently people have been breaking lights on the 3rd and 5th floors, so they're going to charge the ENTIRE FRICKING RESIDENCE HALL! That's 400 of us who have to pay for some stupid shit that someone "cool" did. A little math for you: 3o lights x $150 a light / 400 = $12. For those of you who don't think that's a lot, that's enough money to go out and do something on a saturday night. That's an hour and half of work. well, I'm gonna get working...
