Cedar Springs- The case against a Cedar Springs student who brought mercury to school is dismissed.

In May, 18-year-old Ryan Gorter brought a small amount of liquid mercury to school to show his friend.

Police say he then dropped it in the carpet and rubbed it in with his foot.

Gorter was in Kent County Court today for his preliminary hearing, when instead a deal was made.

Gorter apologized to the court and agreed to pay for the clean-up at the school that wasn't covered by insurance. That is about $2,000.

Originally, Gorter was charged with malicious destruction of property and possession of a harmful substance. He potentially faced 10 years in prison.

Can you say fucking bullshit. apoligize to every student individually on your way to jail. that sounds a little better...i cant fucking beilive this and we thought he was actually going to suffer. why do the useless dicks always win.

Gorter didn't get to walk, and he spent 5 days in prison, he's paying the 2 thousand dollar deductable for the insurance. The school was trying to make him pay an extra 38 thousand dollars that he didn't have too. Plus make an example out of him. when in comparison the kid in battle creek who had 3 times the amount of mercury, and was purposely throwing it at people. only got suspended for 10 days. Gorter suffered enough...

Its Ryan Gorter your talking about....since he isnt going to prison, you know that for a fact he will try and make this help him. With some snide remark like "I went to jail, they couldnt stop me..." If I was the judge of the case I would have taken 1 look at his previous record and decided right then and there that Ryan Gorter isnt going to make "mistakes" like this.

just cause he didn't go to jail this time doesn't mean he won't fuck up his life in some other way

'why do the useless dicks always win'

I have two conclusions to this. A) The judge thought Ryan would get torn apart with he anal rape or B) the judge knew that Ryan is fucked down the road.

Why don't people just leave it the fuck alone? I'm sorry, but I believe a JUDGE was the one who was asked to make the ruling.

AMEN

i dont see why so many people who dont know ryan care so much? i mean honestly.. how heartless can you be to be HOPING for somebody to go to jail?! that makes them lower then they THINK he is.... at least he deals with his own problems rather than meddling in other peoples buisness.

bahh some people suck.
at least the people who care have their ryan back!

the only thing i was pissed about was that they would not let me have my wallet and keys. out of my backpack. or even my backpack period.

however, i now have all of those things back, so why the issue.

i figure i wouldn't want to have to pay 2 grand, even if i deserved it.

and i admit, i also suspect he'll eventually see much more time behind bars, for something proportionally stupid...

but i guess i'd be a dumb bastard too if my dad was some crazy wife-beater.

we all have issues. let's try and help out some, rather than gripe about it. at least, sometimes.
